Doing The Tough Thing Because It’s The Right Thing
Firefighters need it, soldiers need it, people in recovery need it, and every person serious about walking with God needs it – courage. Courage is the strength of heart and soul to do the tough thing because it’s the right thing. The Bible is filled with stories of courage, and no book in the Bible has more courageous characters than the Old Testament book of 1st Samuel.
The book begins with the story of a courageous woman, Hannah, who after years of infertility miraculously has a son – Samuel – whom she trustingly turns over to God to be raised by the priest Eli. Samuel, Saul – the first king of Israel – and Saul’s son Jonathan each face their own trials, each choosing to do the tough thing because it’s the right thing. And then there’s the superstar of 1st Samuel – David, the shepherd boy who goes toe to toe with the giant Goliath, and who is chosen by God to rule Israel when Saul has a lapse in courage. Some of these stories are probably familiar to you, and some may well be new, but they are all inspiring and instructional. Join us this summer at Cornerstone as we learn from these heroes of our faith how to have the courage to do the tough thing because it’s the right thing.
