More Than A Bailout
HOW GRACE WORKS”
A Study of the Book of Romans
By and large, Americans are unhappy with the billions of dollars the government has spent bailing out banks, insurance companies and the automakers. It hardly seems fair, it’s been said, that the American taxpayer should have to foot the bill to rescue companies who are failing because of their own mismanagement. Why do we have to clean up someone else’s mess?
But what about our messes? We’ve all made messes – in the words of the Book of Romans, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) The truth is that because of our sin every one of us is in need of a bailout. And that’s what God offers us: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
But God’s gift of salvation is more than a bailout. Here’s how the Bible puts it: “For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” (Romans 5:10) God’s grace doesn’t end when God forgives our sin; God’s grace continues to redeem and transform us throughout our lives. Join us this summer at Cornerstone as we discover from the Book of Romans how God’s grace works to forgive our sin, heal our hurts, empower our plans and bring our dreams to life.
