How To Save A Life

The Ways Jesus Saves Us

Jesus HealsIn 2005 a group called The Fray came out with a song that continues to get play time called “How To Save A Life.”  The chorus of the song goes like this: “Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend, somewhere along in the bitterness.  And I would have stayed up with you all night, had I known how to save a life.”

The Bible tells us that Jesus knows how to save our lives.  In Romans Paul writes that we have not only been saved by Jesus’ death, but by his life: “For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” (Romans 5:10)

But how does that work; how does Jesus save our lives?  As you read through Matthew’s Gospel you encounter person after person who was saved by Jesus – a man who couldn’t stand on his own two feet; a woman failed by every doctor she tried for 12 years; even Jesus’ closest friends whose boat was on the brink of being submerged by a violent storm.  We all know what it’s like to be on our last legs, to be at the end of our rope; it’s not just our banks or the automakers that need a bail out – we need a bail out.  In all sorts of ways, we need to be saved … and the good news is that Jesus knows how to save a life.  Join us at Cornerstone as we experience all the ways the Jesus of the Gospels is able to save our lives!
